About AeroLOPA

Hand-drawn aircraft seat map by Greg

AeroLOPA is a portfolio of aircraft seat maps, uniquely detailed to help you make the best decision about where to sit on your next flight.

How AeroLOPA began

Where do these highly accurate, hand-drawn seat maps come from? Greg has been a registered architect for over 30 years. He spent almost a decade as the lead architect on a number of projects for Apple, including some of the beautiful stores you've visited around the world. During the COVID lockdowns, Greg started drawing seat maps to pass the time. As he posted them on FlyerTalk, the positive response kept coming, and he started taking requests and completing more seatmaps in his spare time.

When he reached over 1,000 seatmaps drawn, he realized he could do more — he could surround the drawings with heavily researched, accurate amenity content. With the help of his friend Jonathan and a small team of engineers, AeroLOPA was born.

The craft

How does Greg create seat maps with such accuracy? It all starts with a perfect fuselage and the exact location of every riveted window for each model of aircraft on the site. That's the core of a scaled drawing. From there, Greg looks at exterior photos to understand which windows might be “plugged” — where the manufacturer covered over a window with a sheet of aluminum, removing the window (and your view if seated nearby) entirely.

Then Greg studies pictures of the interior, the seats themselves, the bulkheads, the lavatories (which way the door opens), the cabin doors, the carpet seams (seriously), and many more details. He captures fabrics, accent colors, headrests, even the livery depicted on the small bits of fuselage. No detail is overlooked. This is what makes AeroLOPA special, and Greg takes great pride in drawing the most accurate seat maps ever produced.

AeroLOPA meets the SeatGuru

In 2001, Matt created SeatGuru. When TripAdvisor abruptly shut SeatGuru down in November 2025 — 25 years of seat data taken offline with no replacement — Matt was ready to rebuild it from scratch. Then he found AeroLOPA. Looking at Greg's work, he realized the most important thing to happen to airline seating since SeatGuru itself: genuinely to-scale drawings by a licensed architect. Matt immediately joined the team. Read his full story →
